NAIROBI, Kenya— The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced the appointment of Frida Mokaya Boyani as the new Chief Registrar of the Judiciary. Mokaya will succeed Anne Atieno Amadi, whose term concluded on January 12, 2024.
Forty-three candidates applied for this prestigious position, and selection for the position was tough. The JSC shortlisted seven candidates for additional consideration after a thorough evaluation.
The JSC gathered a panel to interview the shortlisted candidates on Monday, March 19. Frida Mokaya then became the selected candidate. Chief Justice Martha Koome officially announced Mokaya’s appointment in a press release that was made available on Tuesday morning.
Macharia Rose Wachuka, Ouma Jack Busalile Mwimali, Wambeti Anne Ireri, Ndemo Paul Maina, Kendagor Caroline Jepyegen, and Kandet Kennedy Lenkamai were among the unsuccessful candidates.
With more than 27 years of judicial experience, Frida Mokaya brings a wealth of knowledge to her new position. Her professional path encompasses a range of roles, including District Magistrate II, Resident Magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate, Principal Magistrate, and Senior Principal Magistrate, in addition to her current position as JSC Registrar since 2012. Mokaya graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Laws and the Kenya School of Law with a Post Graduate Diploma in Law. She also holds the Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K) credential.
Mokaya will take on duties as Chief Registrar and Chief Administrator and Accounting Officer of the Judiciary for the ensuing five years. In addition, she will hold the positions of Secretary to the National Council on Administration of Justice and Secretary to the Judicial Service Commission.
